Apr 24, 2014: City of Chester passenger ship identified after 125 years. CNN, among a plethora of media, covered the news released from NOAA, reporting that the vessel found on the bottom of San Francisco Bay was indeed her, lost on August 22, 1888. Read more here.
Apr 2, 2014: 1847 Steamship Robert J. Walker Makes National Register of Historic Places
The wreck of the 1847-built, 1860-lost U.S. Coast Survey steamship Robert J. Walker has now been added to the National Register of Historic Places, in recognition of the ship and her crew's service, and the ultimate sacrifice 21 men and their families made when Walker was lost. Jim and his NOAA colleagues will be joining a community diver-led expedition to map the wreck in August, 2014.
